The 2025 GNT Australian Multicultural Badminton Championships, held in Tasmania, showcased a remarkable increase in participation, with 115 entries in the graded events compared to 85 entries in 2024. This significant growth highlights the sport’s expanding appeal and the dedication of badminton enthusiasts across Australia.
Last weekend’s competition witnessed players from NSW and VIC stepping onto the court, further elevating the championship’s competitive edge. Among the standout performers was the Southern Tasmania Badminton Association (STBA), which achieved impressive results across multiple grades:
- 4th in Open Grade
- 5th in A Grade
- 4th in B Grade
- 2nd in C Grade
- 4th in D Grade
STBA’s boost in position ranking may be short-lived, as three more sanctioned Badminton events are scheduled this weekend. However, their remarkable rise demonstrates their dedication and improvement in performance.
Notably, Alpha Badminton from NSW achieved the biggest leap this season, jumping 10 positions in A Grade to secure 4th place after Round 3. This incredible achievement is a testament to their hard work and determination. Congratulations to Team Alpha for this impressive climb!
Adding to the excitement, the recent club change of Australia’s top-ranked men’s doubles pair, Rizky & Frenky from Roketto to KBC NSW sets the stage for a thrilling showdown at this weekend’s NSW Easter Open.
As State Sporting Organisation (SSO) membership affiliations improve, unaffiliated players are increasingly joining clubs to qualify for the club championship finals. With NSW, SA, and VIC all hosting Silver-level events this weekend, badminton fans can anticipate an action-packed and fiercely competitive weekend.
